Frequently Asked Questions

As of May 4, 2020
(New information marked with **)

Due to the economic impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Chinook Winds Casino Resort (CWCR) implemented a temporary layoff effective April 1, 2020. At this time we do not have a re-open date and will continue to monitor measures to ensure the financial stability of the organization and the safety of the community. The current pandemic situation has impacted our business significantly. CWCR is making the difficult decision to remain closed until it is safe to re-open.

If your position was affected by the layoff you will be receiving a formal letter in the mail.

Please read the frequently asked questions below. A phone number is available if you have questions that are not answered by this document.

The Latest

  • **Is there a public resource for employees to get help with unemployment, and other, questions we may have?
    • Yes! Tribal members and CWCR team members can call the Legal Aid public benefits hotline. They have limited hours Monday -Thursday or check the webpage which is Oregon Law Help. OREGON PUBLIC BENEFITS HOTLINE: 1(800) 520-5292.  Legal Aid Services of Oregon and the Oregon Law Center, provides for low income Oregonians so they can talk to lawyers and paralegals for advice on public benefits including Unemployment Benefits.
  • Am I able to shop for another medical plan at this time?
    • Employees who have been laid off and who want to drop their medical insurance may do so at this time because the layoff is due to COVID-19, which counts as a qualifying event. Employees may be eligible for the Oregon Health Plan for themselves or their families. Those who would like to take advantage of this may drop their COHO medical insurance now. Chinook Winds does not work with the Oregon Health Plan, so employees need to work directly with the Oregon Health Plan to see if they meet the eligibility requirements based on income.
  • Pacific West Ambulance Lifeguard plan information:
    • This is the time of year when we invite PACWEST Ambulance on property to review, and offer, their annual Lifeguard plan. If you are currently a member and need to renew, or would like to join the Pacific West Ambulance Lifeguard Membership Program, please contact Monica at Pacific West Ambulance: 541-994-6690 ext. 729 or on her cell at 503-551-5125. • Update on withdrawing funds from my 401k through Mutual of America?
    • Participants who seek further financial support and want to request a withdrawal from their retirement plan, need to call the Mutual of America Withdrawal Processing Center at 877-567-9662. When you speak with a representative – you will be asked to provide your name, company, and if possible, your Customer ID and state you are requesting to take a CARES Act withdrawal.
  • I’m concerned about the money we will owe to our FSA account or supplemental life insurance, while we are not receiving a paycheck. Being out of work without having that deduction will add up! Will we have the option of just lowering our benefit amount or paying it off over a period of time
    • If a deduction balance accumulates before a team member returns to work, we will work with them to recover the deduction over a period of time.
  • What happens to my health and insurance benefits if I am laid off?
  • The casino will pay all currently enrolled medical, dental, and vision premiums for the month of April and May 2020.
  • Am I getting Paid for March 30 & 31? If so, how will that affect my unemployment benefits?
    • Clarification:– everyone received a credit of 80 hours of PTO upon closure March 18. If you worked March 16 & 17 you would have seen a 64-hour credit on your last paycheck and then received the remaining 16 hours for March 30 & 31 for this paycheck. If you didn’t work on March 16 & 17 you used the full 80 hours on your last paycheck. This may affect your unemployment as everyone’s official layoff date was April 1 and if you received a paycheck this week you will need to report the additional income. We apologize for any confusion.
  • Now that the golf course has re-opened, do my team member/tribal benefits still apply? May I make a tee time?
    • Yes, team member/tribal benefits do still apply. Green fees are covered, but you still pay for the cart use ($17 per person). You need to comply with the social distancing guidelines set in place.
    • Team members/Tribal may not make tee times. You may play based on availability (stand by) unless you are playing with a paying guest.
